For some kids, birthdays are often overlooked. That's why we love the mission at For Goodness Cakes. They give individual youth at least one special moment that's just about them. By providing a child a treat made especially for them, it gives them some much needed time to not feel the increasing pressure of their socioeconomic situation, but rather help nurture optimism and confidence at a critical age.
How It Works: Volunteers sign-up to be a part of The Sprinkle Squad. After completing the mandatory training, volunteers are then matched with a child who has an upcoming birthday or special occasion. The volunteer whips up a home-baked cake or cupcakes, personalized for the child receiving it. After it's cooled and ready to go, the volunteer delivers the cake. The process seems pretty simple and the reactions from the kiddos receiving a cake (often for the first time in their lives) are priceless.
What We Love About The Organization: What jumped out to me was how easy the process is for a volunteer. I love that you can make such a big impact on a little one by doing something you love, in the comfort of your own home. While donating money to an organization is always a wonderful thing to do, what I like most about For Goodness Cakes (other than their incredibly clever name) is that you can be a part of something so special, and know exactly how you impacted the organization. I don't feel you get that same understanding when strictly donating funds.
How To Get Involved: Visit their website at forgoodnesscakes.org and see if there is currently a chapter in your community. If so, sign up to be a part of The Sprinkle Squad. If not, you can start a chapter of your own.
